Quote of the Day for Wednesday, 3/12

"The conscious mind is going to suggest the obvious, the cliche, because these things offer the security of having succeeded in the past. Only the mind that has been taken off itself and put on a task is allowed true creativity." --David Mamet

Classwork: Today, you can begin typing the first draft of your short fiction story on the blog. If you "Save As Draft" you can go back into "Edit Posts" and access and change your draft from any computer with internet access.

Homework: The first draft of your fiction story needs to be posted to the blog by this Friday, 3/14.

The Least You Need to Know about Plot

  • Plot is the structure of your story, the way the events unfold.
  • Traditional plots have an exposition (introduction), rising action (building of suspense and conflict), climax (high point of intensity), and resolution (end of conflict).
  • The plot structure must reinforce the content and its meaning.
  • Plot your story by jotting down ideas, using a checklist, asking and answering questions, and/or making a diagram.
